Unusual types of fold away beds

These days, it seems that many homeowners have limited space and, therefore, struggle to provide comfortable guest accommodation. This is because a spare room is a luxury that many people simply cannot afford, as they need a home office or have a handful of kids. In these sorts of situations, the only option for guests is a fold away bed that can be hidden when not in use.

Here are some of the more unusual types that you could opt for. If none of these are doing it for you, always remember that you can have a bed custom made to suit the space available in your home.

  • Wall Mounted One of the more common types is a wall mounted bed that spends the day looking like a bookshelf or cupboard of some kind and the night as guest accommodation. It simply folds down, away from the wall, and reveals a comfortable mattress. It can even be made up and hidden away, which saves you time having to put sheets on each night.
  • Free Standing There is also a range of these beds that are available as free standing models, meaning that you can take them with you should you ever move home. Because they aren’t anchored to the wall, however, they cannot support a whole lot of weight and are usually only suitable for a single person. They are also stored much lower to the ground.
  • Ottoman/Couch Whilst these beds were once quite popular, they are becoming less common these days because the mattresses are believed to be rather uncomfortable. They are disguised as a piece of furniture until needed, at which time they are folded out. Ottomans generally turn into singles and couches generally turn into doubles.

As you can see, there are a number of fold away bed options that you could use to provide guest accommodation in your home. As well as providing visitors with a place to sleep for the night, many of these options can double as a useful piece of furniture. When you only have limited space with which to work, it is important that you use every inch in the most appropriate way possible.

We’d love to discuss your next project.
